what is the difference between it and all the other things we do (like taking our kids seriously) not just for the forum, but in life, what things fall under which category? Like I know mommies who use cloth diapers and spank.

so... I was thinking, now that we've all thouroughly decided that it is never too late to begin attatchment parenting, maybe we could think of some actual ways to implement that into a gradeschool child's life.
So, what does "parenting" your child look like?
what ours looks like:
we do everything together, we all pile into the van (sorry we don't fit in anything else) as a "whole - big - family" (my kids' favorite word) and go grocery...

What about wraps

You all gave such great sling advice, what about wraps? I dislocated my shoulder a few years ago and slings just don't work for me (truth is they weren't really my thing before either) after the newborn stage/weight. I'd love to try a wrap. Are there any good ones out there? Any inexpensive ones worth buying? What do you know about the Sleepy Wrap Company? Any and all help is appreciated.

So... lots of babies love being in slings.

And mostly, 14 year olds don't.

So talk to me about how that transition worked/is working in your family. Was it something your children found hard to give up, or was it just an easy move onto the next phase of life?

Unfortunately, I have no experience w/ intact penises, as I wasn't educated about circumcision when I had my older three boys, so I could use some advice from folks who do have experience.

My baby has developed a reddened area at the tip of his penis that looks inflamed to me. I've been using antibacterial ointment the last few days and wonder what, if anything, I should be doing. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Should this be cause for concern? Could it be...

Bed Sharing

I had my oldest in bed with me before I ever heard of Attachment Parenting or Bed Sharing. It just worked for us. Now I see they make little mini beds to put your baby in while sleeping with you. I'm a big believer in 'to each their own' but this seems so silly to me. Am I the only one?

What do you do when your child wants more freedom to roam?

I am talking young children who have just learned to walk? I know there is hand holding but for when they want to wander. I have used a ring sling as a harness in the past. What other options are there?

And why? It's been so long that I've worn my babies, and when I did, I only used whatever was either passed down to me, or what I found at thrift stores/yard sales. My experience is limited to padded ring slings and I never quite managed to get them to work effectively. I mostly carried in-arms but would love to be more hands free this time, particularly in the home. I know that I'll be getting at least an Ergo for dh for outtings.

How a lot of attachment Parenting ideals have become mainstream? Is it that way where you are?

I live in what I consider a very conservative government town. I am seeing a lot more baby wearing devices and more mall benches with woman happily nursing their babies and even toddlers too! It warms my heart! I wish my local mall would provide a more comfy spot though.vI think I will start a crusade of letters and emails. sorry, thinking out-loud.

The current trend is giving me hope....

I am looking at the Imse Vimse trainers. I was wondering if anyone has used these or if you have a better reccomendation. My 3 yr old is finally peeing on the potty but only when he is naked. I am really wanting to transition him to something he can pull down as he wont usually if he is wearing a diaper with velcro.
Also he wont poo on the potty yet....I am waiting for the day. He just asks me for a diaper, so he knows when he has to.

how much of your life?

So, how many years have the rest of you nursed and/or been preg. nursing while preg. counts double, as does tandem and preg. with twins, and tandem while preg. counts triple, etc.
I guess I don't last long while preg. I only have almost 9 1/2 years.

Life after breastfeeding

So, DS has been done for a few months now. I'm still trying to "remember" all the things I can do again! For instance, today I realized I can donate blood again. I can take supplements again. I can eat "type A" foods that DS reacted too. I can do caffeine. Today I imagined kissing a man. Like in slow motion and 3D.

What else can I do? How about you?

Teenagers and alcohol

My 15yo (to be 16yo in a month) is invited to a good friend's 16th birthday (she'll be 16 in two months but having it early due to summer holidays and friends away etc). Invite says '2 alcoholic drinks per person' and 'if you have more and are out of control, your parents will be called'.

Why do 16yo's need to drink alcohol? Am of right off base with teenagers of today? I would never have a party for 16yo's and encourage or allow alcohol. My daughter and this girl are close friends...
