Preferrably more than one syllable, as my last name is also one syllable. (rhymes w/ Runt)

My other preferrances, but not requirements, are that it ends w/ 'er' and sounds organic/earthy or possibly incorporates something of interest or significance, ie, 'his' spring/summer birth, maybe something relevant to eastern religion, etc.

Or, of course, none of the above and just something that simply flows nice.

Currently my whole family uses the Americanized version of DH's family name. I'm very seriously considering changing it to a hyphenated combination of my maiden name and his family's pre-Elis Island name. I love my name, it's unusual, but not too bizarre and has a lovely meaning both personally and origin-wise. So them's the stakes. Baby gets a Vietnamese middle name, and DP's last name (Ryan).

I liked the name Miles Reid, but apparently the baby doesn't want to be named that.

Ivy has an unusual name and so i think i'd like to do something similar. i like that it's unusuial, simple, easy to spell (dyslexics gotta be careful with the hippie names. i'd be MORTIFIED if i misspelled my kids name) and (as every redneck i've ever met keeps tellng me) will suit him just fine if he grow up to be "a gay"
